This is a question that many people struggle with. I too asked myself this question many times before I fully surrendered my life to God. I even tried to research and find out if it is clearly stated in the Bible that it's a sin—but surprisingly, I found no verse that says directly that it is.
But here’s what I learned: While it may not be listed as a direct sin, these things can pull us away from God. I noticed that music and entertainment that didn’t glorify God were weakening my walk with Him. I couldn’t fully surrender because my heart was still tied to worldly pleasures.
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other..." – Matthew 6:24
Our hearts are shaped by what we watch, hear, and spend time with. If we constantly listen to things that don’t glorify God, they slowly shift our desires and thoughts away from Him.
"Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible, but not everything builds up." – 1 Corinthians 10:23
If you want to grow in faith and be led by the Spirit, let go of the things that hinder you—even if the Bible doesn’t call them a sin directly. The question becomes: is this helping me follow Jesus, or holding me back?
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." – Proverbs 4:23
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your endless love. You know our weaknesses and struggles. Help us to let go of anything that pulls us away from You. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we may be guided in what we listen to, what we watch, and how we live. We want to honour You with our hearts, minds, and actions. Strengthen us to fully surrender to You each day.
In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen.
Whenever you feel distracted or drawn back by worldly music or media, take time to pray, read God’s Word, or listen to worship that uplifts your spirit. Choose what helps you grow in your faith and shifts your focus back to God.
